Day 12: Three Forks, Montana
Today was a good day! I was more than ready to break camp and get out of my tent for a few days and into an airbnb with an actual bed, so we packed up pretty quickly and headed down the mountain to the land of cell phone reception. The big town (big by Montana standards) between my campsite and the AirBnb is called Three Forks, and I spent the morning there doing wholesome, small town America stuff. I did my laundry in a coin operated laundromat, and while I waited for that I sat outside on a bench with Mason and evesdropped on the gas station employees taking their cigarette breaks. Then I ate lunch at a local diner famous for their homemade pies—- I had the Dark Forest Cherry with Ice Cream. Lunch took over an hour because the service was slow, but I had no where else to be, and they were so apologetic about the wait that they didn't charge me for the pie. It was all very Norman Rockwell.
From there, I drove down to the AirBnB. I'm staying on a farm/ranch. The room is a sheep wagon that's been converted into a little cabin. It's cute and cozy, but since it's unusually hot here (nothing to worry about their, citizen, move along) it got very hot in the room. Mason and I spent the afternoon sitting outside in the shade reading a book and only went in when the sun went down. Since we are at altitude here, even though it's hot when the sun's out it immediately gets cold when the sun goes down, so things got comfortable fast. On to the Big Sky Half Marathon!
